Ban Ki-moon served as the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Ban has worked for more than 40 years in the diplomatic field. His work as Secretary-General of the UN was oriented to addressing the problem of global warming and to preserving peace throughout the world, to which end he achieved some considerable successes during his term beginning in 2006. From 2004 to 2006 Ban served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea. He also previously served as National Security Advisor to the President. On January 1, 2017 Ban left the post of Secretary-General. In September 2017, at a meeting of the International Olympic Committee, Ban Ki-moon was elected Chair of the Ethics Commission of the International Olympic Committee.
